WCHS graduation moved up one week

With storm clouds looming overhead, Alaura Bivens receives her WCHS diploma from Director of Schools Dr. Grant Swallows last year. Having a better plan for bad weather was the main reason given for moving graduation up one week.

The school year hasn’t even begun and Warren County High School seniors already have reason to rejoice.

Their school year just got shorter by one week.

The Warren County Board of Education voted unanimously Thursday night to move up WCHS graduation by one week for the class of 2023.

Graduation night will now be Friday, May 19 at Nunley Stadium. This is a week earlier than the previous graduation date.

Director of Schools Grant Swallows said the move will make it easier to reschedule the ceremony in the event of rain.

“It makes it tough to have any type of rain schedule,” said Swallows of keeping the date unchanged. “I remember last year we had rain during the ceremony and prior to the ceremony and many of the folks who contacted me at that point said please don’t have it on Saturday. We’re scheduled to leave town on Saturday so there’s really no reason not to move that up a week and have it on Friday the 19th.”

The School Board voted unanimously to amend the school calendar and move up graduation by one week.
