A work day has been scheduled for River Trail North on Saturday, May 13, beginning at 9 a.m.
Volunteers are being sought.
River Trail North is the second half of the trail connecting Rocket Park to Ramsey Park, with the first half being River Trail East, which was completed in October 2016. The northern section will be .4 miles from the Beersheba Street bridge to Rocket Park.
Workers are invited to bring loppers, hand saws and chain saws to cut privet hedge from the wooded area from the launch ramp to the upstream edge of the sewage processing plant. Others will remove the cuttings from the work areas and stack them in open areas. Some adults will be asked to apply herbicide to the stumps to kill root systems. Some will be sought to bring weed trimmers to clear weeds from the corridor.
All workers should bring water and snacks as desired and are encouraged to wear gloves (their own or those provided), closed-toe shoes and long pants to avoid scrapes and poison ivy contact. All adults will need to sign a waiver of liability and those under the age of 18 will need a responsible adult to sign.
The work is sponsored by the city of McMinnville, Greenway Council and Friends of the Greenway. “Please invite others to come,” said Dr. Wally Bigbee, who is organizing the effort. “If you can come or if you have questions, please call me at 473-5968.”
Work will continue until approximately noon.
