Viola Valley Homecoming officials have announced this year’s lineup, including Elvis impersonator Russell “Elvis” Cortese getting attendees all shook up.
Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24 will be a weekend full of fun, food and the famous parade. Local food and craft vendors will be open both days beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
The 2019 Viola Valley Homecoming will return to being a two-day event unlike last year with Saturday being the only day of celebration.
“We had so many different people who came and enjoyed it more as a two-day festival,” said Trent Prater, the Viola Valley Homecoming Commission president. “We had a lot of requests to move it back to two days.”
The two days of fun will include music from the Silver and Gold Band, entertainment by Rhythm Express Cloggers and will end with the exciting Rumble in the Valley truck and tractor pull.
The dress-up and lip-syncing favorite On the Road Again Show, where participants choose which of their favorite singers they want to impersonate, will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Hog Wild Pork Rinds will be on the scene serving hot and fresh pork rinds.
Viola’s beloved parade will kick off Saturday activities beginning at 10 a.m.
At 2 p.m. on Saturday, it’s now or never to see Russell “Elvis” Cortese, a well-known Elvis impersonator who has entertained people across the country. Cortese will take the stage to perform The King’s greatest hits and interact with the crowd.
Children under 6 gain free admission to the tractor and truck pull, ages 6-11 pay $5 and ages 12 and up pay $10.
“What I’m looking forward to the most is the music and seeing everyone come out,” said Prater. “Hopefully, the weather will hold out, and we can raise a lot of money to put back toward the town. Everything we make goes right back into Viola.”
