Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5064 has voted to restore its auxiliary, two months after it disbanded.

“I’d like to say thank you to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5064 for approving the VFW Auxiliary 5064 to reactivate their charter,” said Phyllis Barnes, who was against dissolving the auxiliary that had served for 72 years.

Barnes said she began working with VFW members several months ago in an effort to preserve the auxiliary. When that failed, she turned her energy to reactivating it.

“I’ve been working with the men of the VFW when we first realized that some wanted to disband. I’m the chief of staff for Tennessee. I organize auxiliaries for VFWs across the state. I’m thankful for the support members of the VFW have given the auxiliary. Hopefully, we can come back even stronger than we were. We need to help our veterans.”

Required is a minimum of 10 members or transfers from the original auxiliary.

“Now we need to find members,” said Barnes. “It can be new members or transfers. The dues are $25 a year. Do you have a veteran you’d like to honor by becoming a member? Please give me a call.”

Those eligible for membership are fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, widowers, widows, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, grandfathers, grandmothers, grandsons and granddaughters of persons who were, or are, eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, living or deceased.
