It’s hard to beat ice cream on a hot day and McMinnville Special Games offered just that at its annual Ice Cream Drive-Thru on Friday evening.

McMinnville Special Games co-founder and president Holly McBride says the ice cream social was a big hit. Multiple cars full of smiling faces pulled up at McMinnville Enrichment Center to get a sweet treat.

“So far we have had a spectacular turnout. Everybody is loving the ice cream because it is so super hot,” said McBride.

Visitors had five options. Jada Cummings and Taylor Lyle were walking around with signs with the options of an ice cream sandwich, a drumstick, Jolly Rancher popsicle, SpongeBob popsicle, or a Bomb Pop. All members in the car were able to get an ice cream.

Along with ice cream, they were giving away school supplies, hygiene products, and food boxes. Many volunteers were helping out.

“We are giving out more food boxes than I thought we would and that is great,” said McBride. “We put a flyer in the food boxes saying that we are going to be having an ongoing food pantry. Hopefully we will be having more people reach out.”

This was the first event at the new McMinnville Enrichment Center on Garfield Street. McBride says they will be having more of their events there in the future and wants all the Special Games participants to know it is their building.

Overall, the ice cream social was a fun way to cool off and see friendly faces.

“It has been really good so far. Everyone seems really appreciative of the food boxes and school supplies. I love getting to see all my kiddos,” said McBride.
