A Tuesday afternoon car wreck ended with a 2015 Nissan Frontier crossing the median on Highway 55 before crashing into the fence surrounding the John Deere dealership.
A 2015 Chrysler 200 driven by 18-year-old Smithville resident Andrew Burklow pulled into the path of the 2015 Nissan Frontier driven by 27-year-old Morrison resident Thomas Cogbill causing a collision.
According to state trooper Rodney Whiles, Cogbill and his 13-year-old passenger were traveling east on Highway 55 near the Shangri La Lane intersection when Burklow pulled in front of them. Whiles says Burklow states he never saw the truck.
After the collision, Cogbill’s vehicle crossed the median into oncoming traffic before crashing into the fence surrounding John Deere. Whiles says to the best of his understanding, after impact the airbags blew up in Cogbill’s face obstructing his vision and he didn’t hit the brakes. Whiles says it is lucky the truck was not struck by oncoming traffic when he crossed the median.
“Very lucky. That could have been very bad,” said Whiles.
No one involved was seriously injured. Whiles said Burklow was transported by EMS to the hospital and the 13-year-old passenger complained of shoulder pain, but was taken by a family member to receive medical treatment.
