If you have social media, it’s likely you’ve seen the new turkey prank being posted. No, not the pregnant turkey YouTube joke, where kids are fooled by a turkey stuffed with a Cornish hen. In this one, people are pranking their parents or loved ones by asking them how long they should cook a giant turkey in the microwave.
The joke has gone viral just in time for Thanksgiving and the responses are hilarious. Several local people have gone along with the joke, including Lauren Weber, who posted a snapshot of her mom, Glenda Wilcher’s response last Thursday.
Lauren: How long would it take to cook a turkey in the microwave? If I took it out of the freezer like next Tuesday and let it thaw?
Glenda: Lord, I would not ever put a turkey in the microwave. Are you nuts?
Glenda: I would hate to know what would happen.
Lauren: So maybe 2 hours?
Glenda: No, don’t microwave the turkey.
Stevana Palombo said when she asked her mom, Shawn, how long it would take to microwave a 25-pound turkey via text, it quickly ended in a phone call with Shawn begging her not to microwave it. Her sister, Shani, texted Stevana with their mom’s instructions.
Stevana: So cover it in foil completely and put it in the microwave for how long?
Shani: NO FOIL EVER CAN GO IN THE MICROWAVE. Call me please.
Since Tatum Young’s mom, Tammy, had already seen the joke on Facebook, she decided to try it on dad Tim who got serious when asked about cooking a turkey in the microwave.
Tatum: It’s semi-thawed. I need it for tomorrow at work.
Tim: It will take about 10 min. per pound. It can’t touch the microwave top, bottom, or sides. Our microwave isn’t big enough. You better call your mom or talk to her.
Since McMinnville native Leah Steakley’s boyfriend, Parker, never checks social media, she decided to prank him. He called eight times during their text conversation.
Leah: Just give me some idea.
Parker: I have no idea. I don’t think I could be any more clear on that.
Leah: I understand but I’m crunched for time bc I’m studying. I was thinking an hour and checking on it in 30 minutes.
Parker: How are you going to check the internal temperature? This is a horrible idea.
Leah: Parker give me some idea you cook all the time
Parker: I would never put a turkey in the microwave. I can’t tell you because I don’t know. Heating something up and cooking something are two different things. I’m trying to tell you, but you aren’t listening
Leah: I put it on a plate and put 30 minutes. It’s fine right now. Friendsgiving starts at 7:30 there’s like 20 coming. Pick up some of that cranberry stuff in a can
Parker: I need to talk to you when you are finished with your practice exam.
