A fender-bender on Hwy 70S resulted in three injuries and two citations Friday night. At 8:56 p.m., first responders were dispatched to a collision at the Red Rd. and Hwy 70S intersection. On the scene, a White Equinox driven by James Cook, 78, was discovered to have been rear-ended by a Volvo driven by Toby Cantrell, 46.
According to the report, Cantrell had been unable to brake before colliding with the Equinox, which was stopped at the time of the incident.
“The Cooks were driving inbound back toward town,” explained McMinnville Police Officer Tristan Shirley. “Cook had stopped at the red light when his vehicle was struck by Cantrell.”
Both drivers and Cook’s wife, Beverly, 74, were transported to Ascension Saint Thomas River Park Hospital for minor injuries sustained in the wreck, but all are expected to make a full recovery.
Cantrell was cited for failure to yield and driving without insurance.
