This week’s wildfires in Gatlinburg have left clouds of sorrow hanging over Tennessee as 10 people have been confirmed dead and at least five others are still missing.During a news conference Thursday, Sevier County officials conveyed the somber news that some remains may never be found due to the intensity of the flames.“We’re all numb,” said Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller. “It’s hard to ask for your understanding because I don’t understand this myself. It’s unfathomable.”Gatlinburg is closed and the evacuation is still in effect as search and rescue workers scour the charred landscape.
