A 17-year-old female appeared to escape serious injury Tuesday morning on Manchester Highway despite the crumpled condition of her car.
Warren County Sheriff’s Department is not releasing the name of the teen, citing her juvenile status, but noted she was transported to Ascension Saint Thomas River Park Hospital for what are believed to be minor injuries.
The two-vehicle accident occurred Tuesday morning around 10:30 a.m. as both vehicles were traveling outbound on Manchester Highway in Smartt Station. In the area of Southern Central Iron, a Womack Transportation 18-wheeler slowed to make a right turn into the business. The teen was driving a yellow Chevy Aveo that was traveling behind the 18-wheeler.
When the big rig slowed to turn, the Chevy Aveo did not and it smashed into the rear.
Despite considerable front-end damage to the car, the passenger compartment around the driver’s seat was amazingly intact. There was no visible damage to the tractor trailer.
Law enforcement used the two inbound lanes of Manchester Highway to divert traffic around the wreck while it was being cleared from the highway.
