Editor's Note: This is the second of a three-part series about TBI director Mark Gwyn's views of crime in Tennessee.With Nashville and other cities across the country voting to decriminalize marijuana, TBI Director Mark Gwyn believes they are making a bad choice in minimizing the dangers of the drug.“Nothing good will come of it,” Gwyn said during his address last week at McMinnville’s Noon Rotary Club about the state of crime in Tennessee. Recreational marijuana is already legal in four states -- Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. It will be on the November ballot in five more states -- California, Nevada, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Maine.The TBI director believes marijuana is a drug that opens the door to other drug use and that for government to tacitly endorse it by decriminalization will manifest itself by increased drug use.“Marijuana will always be a gateway drug,” Gwyn said.
