Christmas just took a super hit, or was that a heroic POW?
The 2017 McMinnville Christmas Parade theme is slated for Dec. 2 at 2:30 p.m. This year’s theme is Superheroes for Christmas.
A superhero is a type of heroic stock character who possesses supernatural or superhuman powers and who is dedicated to fighting crime, protecting the public, and usually battling supervillains. Noted heroes include Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Thor, Hal Jordan, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Mr. Fantastic, Wolverine, Iron Man, Super Boy, Super Girl, Hulk, Power Girl and Swamp Thing.
For his years in fighting local crime, this year’s grand marshal will be Warren County Sheriff Jackie Matheny. He is the county’s longest serving sheriff. At the end of his term next year, he will have served 24 consecutive years. The honor comes after Matheny’s retirement announcement. His final day is Sept. 1, 2018.
Parade deadline to enter is Friday, Nov. 17. No late entries accepted. Forms may be picked up at City Hall, McMinnville Civic Center, or the McMinnville-Warren County Chamber of Commerce.
Lineup will take place at McMinnville Civic Center at 12 p.m. Parade begins at 2:30 p.m., runs its traditional route down Main Street and ends at the Downtown Water Tower. Entries will be vying for numerous prizes including the coveted People’s Choice Award.
