Straight-line winds or tornado?

JL Jacobs photo The damage in Warren County from recent storms was determined to be caused by straight-line winds at 80 mph. Sally Heath’s front yard in Morrison off Manchester Highway was one of many sites in the area which suffered the loss of trees due to the strong winds. Determining the difference in a tornado and straight-line wind is the job of meteorologists at the National Weather Service.
