The McMinnville Special Games has kicked off its month-long basketball competition and is two games into a fourgame schedule. The four-week season opened against McMinnville Fire Department. With a score of 52-13, the firefighters didn’t put up a great fight.

The first set of games took place on Saturday, Feb. 6 with a great turnout. It included popcorn, cookies and everything a true basketball game calls for.

Most importantly, there were a lot of fans and support for the special players.

With almost everyone contributing to the score, no player was left unsatisfied. Special player Layton Sweeten Kirby stole the ball multiple times and helped his teammates on the orange team.

The yellow team had some standouts as well with Hudson Winfree and Taylor Lyle lending a hand on offense. Special player John Madewell proved to be a great defender for the yellow team, helping to create critical turnovers.

After the special players demolished McMinnville Fire Department, they went on to play against each other, yellow team versus orange.

After the game, all the players and participants were awarded cookies for their hard work.

This most recent Saturday, Feb. 13, Suncrest Home Health attempted to beat the special players.

Donations are being accepted at all games. That includes monetary donations and “blessing bags” which are bags of toiletries that are given to people with special needs.

The games will continue throughout February at Pioneer Community Church starting at 10 a.m.
