The most serious charges of rape and aggravated kidnapping have been dismissed against a man accused of holding his girlfriend hostage in the Rock Island area for days. But Mark Kevin Smith, 38, will still serve eight years in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and violation of the sex offender registry. Three counts of rape and one count of aggravated kidnapping were dismissed as part of his plea arrangement.
