First Baptist Church of Smartt will hold its annual Youth Group Cruise-In on Saturday, March 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide children with food on the weekends.
“Our youth group members wanted to help provide food to the less fortunate children in Warren County,” said First Baptist Church of Smartt member Teddy Boyd. “There is no set fee for the cruise-in. Instead, we ask for food donations or monetary donations to buy food for the youth group’s community outreach program to combat hunger.”
Donations go to fund Fuel Bags, a food subsidization program that discretely places bags of food directly in the backpacks of needy children every Friday afternoon.
Warren County Schools provides free breakfast and lunch to all children during the school day. However, for some children, that is their only source of food. Between lunch Friday and breakfast Monday, that’s up to 67 hours with no food. The bags provide the children with items to eat over the weekend.
Suggested food list: microwaveable mac and cheese, Pop-Tarts, instant oatmeal, fruit snacks, fruit cups, mini cereal boxes, cereal bars, granola bars, pudding cups, shelled nuts, peanut butter crackers, cheese and crackers, Slim Jim sticks, juice boxes, raisins, etc.
The church is located at 4907 Manchester Highway.
