A Friday night crash sent five teens to the hospital when their car hit a bridge abutment on Faulkner Springs Road.
Six teens were in the car, a 2011 Acura, which was badly crumpled by impact.
“They are very lucky because this could have been a whole lot worse,” said state trooper Rodney Whiles. “Right now charges are pending.”
Names were not provided due to the juvenile status of everyone involved.
According to Whiles, the 16-year-old female driver was the oldest person in the car. Also in the vehicle was a 15-year-old, front-seat passenger, and four people in the back seat, all ages 13 and 14.
The car was traveling away from town on Faulkner Springs Road and was in the area of Custom Vinyl signs when the crash occurred.
Whiles noted it’s illegal for a 16-year-old driver to have more than one passenger in the car under those conditions. There are some exceptions, such as taking family members to and from school, but they wouldn’t apply to the Friday night crash.
