Shade will have to wait

Shade is a special-order item so visitors to Gilley Pool shouldn’t expect any additional cover during the 2017 season.
“The shade structures are not an on-the-shelf item,” said McMinnville Parks and Recreation director Scott McCord. “It will take anywhere from possibly six to eight weeks to make and deliver. With that, I feel it is in the best interest of the pool operation the installation will not be until after school starts back after summer break.”
On Tuesday night, McMinnville officials approved the purchase of two nylon-covered structures that will stretch over the eating area of the pool. The measure passed unanimously with all board members in attendance.
The pool opened for the season Saturday. The season runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend in September. Admission is $4 per person.
Receiving the project was All Recreation with a bid of $24,114.
