Plans to sign a new contract with Durham School Services, which has operated Warren County buses for the past five years, have hit a speed bump as school officials have learned they will have to put the contract out for bid.“We thought we could just renew the contract but it appears it’s something that will have to be bid,” revealed Director of Schools Bobby Cox after the Board of Education voted unanimously to enter into a new contract with Durham during its most recent meeting. “So we’ll bid it and go from there.”Warren County Schools contracted with Durham five years ago to run its bus fleet.“Things have gone well,” Cox told the School Board before its vote, noting Durham has purchased 12 buses since that time, the buses generally costing around $100,000 apiece. The new contract, which was to be three years with options for two more years, would have seen eight new buses bought by Durham during the lifetime of the contract. Durham was supposed to complete installation of digital cameras in all its buses.
