A man who claimed his car had been stolen after he crashed it and ran from the scene has been granted probation on perjury charges.The man, Juan Domingo Sales, 23, was given an 11-month, 29-day sentence but released on time-served to spend the rest of his term on probation. He must also make restitution and pay $10 plus costs for evading arrest, perjury and driving without a license.Witnesses at the scene said Sales did not bother hanging around for deputies after he wrecked his Honda Civic on Old Smithville Highway.Lawmen were able to track Sales to his home off Lowery Lane by running the ID numbers on his car. He had ripped off the license plate before he left.However, as they were heading to question Sales, dispatch received a call from him, claiming his car had been stolen.
