Officials say threat overblown on social media

A veiled threat by a student to “shoot up the school” on Friday sent social media abuzz and prompted the high school to send out a mass advisory that it was safe to come to school.“It began as an off-the-wall comment and by the time social media got ahold of it, the whole thing became something else,” said Director of Schools Bobby Cox of the rumor that began hitting social media sites Thursday night. “We turned it over to the Sheriff’s Department and they investigated it.”Sheriff Jackie Matheny said his department found no basis to the threat. “There was nothing to it at all,” the sheriff said.
