A woman who was hit with child neglect charges after she and a man were reportedly seen doing drugs near Midway ballfield last month has been granted probation.
The woman, Michelle Reno, 24, entered a guilty plea to the charge of child neglect and was granted an 11-month, 29-day judicial diversion. The diversion means she can have her record erased once her probation is complete. She was also directed to pay $50 plus costs and undergo a drug and alcohol assessment.
Reno was arrested along with David L. Caswell, 24, when deputies responded the Midway area to check out a tip about someone using drugs. An officer fell in behind a vehicle matching the description provided by a witness. Upon being stopped, Caswell admitted he did not have a driver license. There was a 6-year-old child in the backseat who was not properly secured.
A subsequent search netted a red bag containing five baggies of methamphetamine and items of paraphernalia.
Pill bottles were also found inside the vehicle with someone else’s name. Reno took credit for those, telling the officer they belonged to an ex-boyfriend.
Caswell is scheduled for hearing on his charges Sept. 14.
