The Warren County Ministerial Association has provided details to register for its back-to-school book bag giveaway this Saturday, Aug. 8 at West Elementary. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Anyone with school-age children is eligible, but hopeful recipients must preregister by today, Aug. 7, by texting 931-807-2535. The parents must provide each child’s name, grade, and school they will be attending in the text.

Michael Harris, president of the ministerial association, asks parents to only list children who are in their household.

“When the parents come to pick up their book bag they will need to provide a driver’s license or picture ID and proof of residency such as a light bill or water bill,” Harris explained. “We will record each family’s name as they receive their book bags.”

Harris and other members of the ministerial association expect to prepare about 400 backpacks loaded with school supplies needed for the upcoming school year.

Each backpack will be suitable for a boy or a girl.

“Our desire is to provide a bag for everyone who preregisters,” Harris said.

“The school gives a list of materials the students will need and that’s what we’ll provide,” said Harris. “The list changes with different grade levels so some bags will be specific for elementary school, some for middle school, and some for high school.”

“We’re hoping we can help take the pressure off of parents and teachers by providing backpacks and school supplies for students who could use a little help,” said Harris.

Harris encourages anyone who would like to make a donation to the book bag giveaway to contact him by email at mandmharris@charter.net.
