Local charitable group Power of 100 presented a check for $16,400 to Matthew 25 Ministries Tuesday.
Matthew 25 Ministries is a non-profit which provides food and shelter to locals. The ministry is supported by Three Rivers Baptist Church in Rock Island and was founded by Gannon Richesin.
Power of 100 is a non-profit group run by local women who each donate $100 to a charity or non-profit each quarter. A charity is selected through a vote, and each member who donates $100 is allowed to cast one vote.
Richesin declined to say what the donation from Power of 100 would be used for, but he stated it would be announced at the next Power of 100 meeting.
“We are working on some things that aren’t ready to be public information yet,” Richesin said. “All the funds the ministry receives will go back into Warren County. It will serve the six groups we serve: the hungry, the thirsty, the naked, the lonely, the imprisoned and the sick.”
During winter months, Matthew 25 Ministries has operated a warming center at Three Rivers Baptist Church. The emergency warming center will be open any night when temperatures are below 28 degrees and will be open 24 hours a day when daily temperatures will not exceed 32 degrees.
Due to the return of cold weather, the warming center will be reopening Sunday and will reopen nightly next week from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. Thanks to donations from the Warren County Community, Matthew 25 Ministries installed a new shower at its warming center.
