One McMinnville icon will be saluted by another on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. as McMinnville native and Country Music Hall of Fame member Dottie West will be the focus of a tribute show held at the historic Park Theater. The show is titled "A Celebration of Dottie West" and will feature a star-studded lineup paying tribute to the country legend as Linda Davis, Tess Frizzell, Lang Scott and Bobby Tomberlin are scheduled to perform. The night will be a celebration of one of McMinnville's most famous citizens, with songs and stories from Dottie's life and career.
Davis, a three-time Grammy winner, is perhaps best known for her mega-hit duet with Reba McEntire, "Does He Love You." She is also known for her Grammy-winning contemporary Christian recordings. Davis has amassed multiple hits and awards throughout her 35+ years of entertaining audiences around the world.
Davis will be accompanied by her husband of 39 years, Lang Scott. Scott, a star in his own right, was the first winner of The Nashville Network's "You Can Be A Star." He has written songs for stars such as LeAnn Rimes and JoDee Messina. He also served as guitarist and background vocalist in Reba McEntire's band. The duo are the parents of Rylee Scott and Lady A's Hillary Scott.
Tess Frizzell was born into country music royalty as the daughter of CMA/ACM winner Shelly West and singer/songwriter Allen Frizzell. Her country music DNA runs even deeper with her grandmother, Dottie West, and uncle Lefty Frizzell, also a Country Music Hall of Fame member. Tess is following in her family's footsteps, writing songs along with hit writers such as Bill Anderson and Michael Farren. Frizzell tours the country singing her music as well as some of her family's hits while sharing the stories behing the songs.
Grammy, CMA and ACM nominee Bobby Tomberlin began his music career at the age of 11 as a disc jockey in his hometown of Luverne, Ala. During his time as a DJ he has interviewed music legends including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Keith Whitley. Tomberlin got his first publishing contract from Mel Tillis and is currently a staff songwriter for Curb Music Publishing in Nashville.
“We are excited to bring this event honoring Dottie West to the community. Putting on a show like this celebrating Dottie’s life and work has been on our wish list at the Park Theater for a while now, and having the opportunity to bring such great musicians and songwriters to the stage to help tell Dottie’s story is just icing on the cake," said Park Theater Manager Joe Harvey.
This show is a part of Park Theater’s Signature Series, a new designation management has given to shows presented by the Park Theater in contrast to shows brought in by outside promoters who rent the theater. Plans are in the works for many more Signature Series shows, but in addition to the Dottie West celebration, "Domine: For the Love of Pink Floyd," a light, video and musical tribute to Pink Floyd with a live band, and "Mixtape: An 80s Tribute" are already on the books in the coming months.
Harvey added, “We have some things in the works that we think the public is really going to like. We want to book bigger and better acts than we have previously brought to the Park Theater and we’re currently working on bringing in some nationally known acts, some highly requested shows, some programming for the whole family and some culturally diverse performances as part of this series. We want to be a destination to draw visitors to our area so, in addition to seeing a show at the Park, they’re also shopping, eating and staying in our community. We think this series of shows will help us reach that goal and will provide some great entertainment, too. We’ve already seen some great results with local tourism from shows like Brent Cobb, The Milk Carton Kids, Dan Tyminski, and Killer Beaz and we are looking to build on that momentum.”
