McMinnville’s Christ-mas Parade is this Saturday with a team of grand marshals.
This year’s parade dignitaries are members of McMinnville’s 5-6-year-old state championship baseball team.
“This might as well be the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for these kids,” said coach Justin Tanner. “To say they are excited would be an understatement. The players, their parents, and coaches can’t thank the city enough for the recognition.”
Team members are Chandler Thaxton, Lake Minton, Bentley LeFevers, Jett Rains, Wyatt Tanner, Rawley Gilispie, Lawson Denning, Bryce Grissom, Aiden van Vuuren and Tripp Medley. The coaches are Tanner, Josh Gilispie, Sam Medley, Zack Minton and Jim Bob LeFevers.
The Pioneers went an undefeated 5-0 during play leading up to the state tournament. Upon traveling to Murfreesboro in July for a three-day TYBA tournament, the team emerged victorious with a 23-15 win over Cannon County in the championship game.
Tanner said hard work and determination paid off.
“They worked very hard to improve as a team this summer and it payed off. It’s great to see that being rewarded in such a big way in front of their community. Hopefully it will encourage more kids to sign up for baseball in the spring. McMinnville has the talent to compete at a high level. We just need more kids and coaches on the field. Our players have shown what can be accomplished with hard work and determination.”
The parade begins at 2:30 p.m. and has a Grinch theme. It runs from McMinnville Civic Center down Main Street to Colville Street. Traffic and parking will be controlled by McMinnville Police Department.
