The deadline to be in this year’s Grinch-themed Christmas Parade has been extended to Wednesday, Nov. 27 until 3:30 p.m.
“We have received more entries which prompted us to extend the deadline until Wednesday evening,” explained Parks and Recreation Department director Scott McCord. “At this time, we have over 70 entered to participate.”
The original deadline was Nov. 20.
Entry forms can be picked up and submitted at Three Star Mall. The cost is $30. Entries will be vying for cash prizes totaling $1,575. There will be eight categories including People’s Choice Award with a prize of $200.
The parade will take place Saturday, Dec. 7. Event organizers would like to remind entries of the new staging plan.
“We normally stage the Christmas parade in the front parking lot of the Civic Center,” said Kyle Clyde, the city’s program coordinator. “With the Civic Center construction, we need to have an alternative plan.”
Officials have approved a partial street closure, that being the inside street closest to the Civic Center, for staging. Traffic will be controlled by McMinnville Police Department. Thru-traffic vehicles will be directed counter-clockwise on the open street around the center. That pattern is used during the July 4 fireworks display.
Lineup begins at noon, while the parade officially begins at 2:30 p.m. It runs from the Civic Center down Main Street to Colville Street.
