Owens seeks 12th District County Commissioner seat
Daniel Owens color

My name is Daniel Owens and I am running for the 12th District County Commission.

I was born and raised in Warren County and I am happy to call this county my home. I have resided in the 12th District for nearly 10 years. I have been employed in the transportation and logistics industry at Freedom Express and McCormick Warehouse in Morrison for approximately 14 years.

When I started working at Freedom Express and McCormick Warehouse, I was a dockworker and have worked my way up to operations manager. At the company, I am responsible for the day-to-day operations, negotiating customer contracts and bidding for 1- to 2-year business cycles, dispatching, increasing new customers and gaining new accounts, enforcing and maintaining safety rules and regulations, and overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. While at the company, we have used our hard-work approach to help grow to 29 semi-trucks and 125 tractor-trailers.

I am a proud graduate of Warren County High School and played a variety of sports for the Pioneers and various other community teams which taught me the value of teamwork. While working full time, I first attended college at Motlow State Community College taking night classes as a student in the Adult College Express program. I graduated as a member of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society. After my Motlow graduation, I received a PTK academic scholarship and used it to continue my education at MTSU. I graduated with a bachelor’s of business administration degree in accounting in 2017. I think my accounting degree would be beneficial in the development of our county’s economic growth and governmental policies. I could use this as an integral resource to help make informed business and finance decisions, determine areas of growth, and track financial information.

I am a proud member of McMinnville Young Professionals, Lucky CIC, Phi Theta Kappa Alumni Association, and the Loyal Order of the Moose 1725. I received the “One to Watch” Alumni Award in 2018 from the Motlow College Foundation. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to volunteer in various ways, including Habitat for Humanity, Kids of the Community, Relay for Life, Smokin’ in McMinnville, and Taste of the Underground.

In 2009, I married Dayron Deaton-Owens, who is an associate professor of psychology/ sociology at Motlow College in McMinnville. Dayron and I love to travel, kayak, golf, and spend time with our family and our animals.

I would like the opportunity to bring my strong work ethic, educational knowledge, and my utmost enthusiasm to Warren County. I want the opportunity to be elected into this position to help lead Warren County into the future and give back to the community I call home. As your next County Commissioner for District 12, I would be honored to serve Warren County’s residents.
