Outstanding seniors bestowed scholarships, awards

It was a bittersweet moment as teachers and community members proudly honored WCHS seniors with scholarships and awards Friday morning. Many tears, smiles and hugs were shared as students took the stage at WCHS.

For valedictorian Jacqueline Becerra, she received a full scholarship of $315,620 to Stanford, a private research university in California. Stanford is known for its academic strength as one of the world’s top universities.

Among other top scholarship recipients, Elisabeth Morrison received $155,976 from College of the Atlantic, Lauran Cantrell received $148,000 from Belmont, Ethan Smith received $145,200 from Lenior-Rhyne University, Kyle Tobitt received $134,368 from Colby Sawyer College, and Tyra Wright received $131,200 from Charleston Southern.
