Noted blues guitarist coming to Cumberland Caverns

Tab Benoit, a top name in the contemporary blues world, is bringing his Louisiana-based blues and rock sound to Cumberland Caverns Live this coming Saturday, Dec. 21. Tickets are currently on sale for those interested in celebrating the holidays by enjoying a concert 333 feet below ground.

Acclaimed guitarist and vocalist Tab Benoit, who was recently ranked as one of the top 10 blues guitarists by Guitar World magazine, will be displaying his skills at Cumberland Caverns Live next weekend.

“For fans of the blues and blues guitar playing, Tab Benoit performing at Cumberland Caverns Live is a special treat,” says Joel Grubb, producer of Cumberland Caverns Live. “Since Tab was recently named among the top 10 blues guitarists on the planet today by Guitar World magazine, you can call this concert a holiday present wrapped in blue.”

The concert will take place in the Volcano Room of Cumberland Caverns this coming Saturday, Dec. 21, at 3 p.m. Blues vocalist and guitarist J.P. Soars will be the opening act.

Benoit brings a style of Louisiana-infused rocking blues. With a guitar prowess echoing the genre’s electrified legends, and a voice evoking countrified bluesy soul, Benoit is a top name in the contemporary blues world. 

“The fact Tab will be playing inside the natural wonder of the Volcano Room, located 333 feet below the surface, carries a special significance,” says Grubb. “He is an environmental activist and the founder of Voice of the Wetlands. This volunteer-based, nonprofit organization focuses on bringing awareness to the loss of the wetlands in southern Louisiana.”

After stints on well-known labels, Benoit co-founded Whiskey Bayou Records, boasting an array of established roots-centric artists. Among them is J.P. Soars, who will kick off the show with a set featuring cuts from his latest release, “Let Go of the Reins.”

Tickets are $40 to $60 and can be purchased at If interested in taking a tour of the cave prior to the performance, guests can embark on the adventure for an additional $15. The venue is located at 1437 Cumberland Caverns Road in McMinnville.
