A man was killed near his home in the pre-dawn hours Saturday when his vehicle ran off the road near Irving College and overturned.The driver and sole occupant of the 1999 Chevy Tahoe, Dewey Nelson, 43, died at the scene of the 5 a.m. accident on Highway 56.“He was within about a mile of where he lived,” said Trooper Wade Myers, who investigated the one-vehicle crash.According to Myers, Nelson was heading southbound (away from McMinnville) when he ran off the road and hit a culvert. The impact with the culvert sent the SUV airborne before it came back down, landing on its top. Nelson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected, causing the fatal injuries.Myers said the cause of the accident is unknown and there was no evidence of alcohol use playing a factor in the fatality.A motorcycle enthusiast, Nelson helped form Silent Creed Riding Club where he served as vice president.
