Members of the Silent Creed Riding Club are, from left, Darren Turner, Dewey Nelson, Horton Nunley, Chuck Anderson, Bob Hicks, Joey Anderson, Steve Hicks, Jeff Sanders, Leon Tate, Roy Bouldin, Dale Hacker and Brett Cutts. The group is inviting all veterans to a free meal at the VFW on May 20.

Motorcycle riders who like to experience the freedom of the open road are planning a meal to say thank you to those who made that freedom possible.
A group called Silent Creed Riding Club is holding a free meal open to all veterans May 20 at the VFW. The meal will be served at 2 p.m. and include Bad Boys BBQ.
“We couldn’t do what we do unless they’ve done what they’ve done,” said Silent Creed president Darren Turner.
Added Silent Creed vice president Dewey Nelson, “If we can give the veterans a free meal, and give their spouses a free meal too, it’s the least we can do to show how much we appreciate them.”
Turner and Nelson started the motorcycle club about 18 months ago. They were the only members at first, but the group has grown to about 15. Regular meetings are held at a building on Beersheba Street.
Silent Creed has already held several fundraisers. Its most recent one raised $1,420, Turner said. The VFW is being used for the May 20 dinner because the group is hoping to have 300 to 400 veterans in attendance.
“We enjoy doing things for the community and we’ve found it’s so much easier as a group than trying to do it by yourself,” said Nelson. “We all have jobs and we all work. The thing we have in common is we all love to ride.”
To offset some of the meal costs, Silent Creed is seeking sponsors. For a donation of $50 or more, you will be listed on the event T-shirt. You will also receive a shirt.
May 20 is Armed Forces Day so Silent Creed members are anticipating a patriotic meal. Veterans and their spouses will eat free with service card. Other guests are welcome, although there is a $10 meal charge. If any money is made from the dinner, group members say it will be donated to a worthy cause.
