Magness Library has announced the return of its Mother’s Day Tea.
The Mother’s Day Tea, a partnership between Magness Library and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. This year’s event is scheduled for this coming Saturday, May 14 at 11 a.m.
“DAR will be providing decorations and finger foods,” said Magness Library assistant director Merissa Chapman. “It has been two years since we’ve hosted a Mother’s Day Tea. We’re delighted to see its return.”
Mother’s Day has been celebrated in the United States since the 19th century, with the official holiday evolving in the early 1900s. Devoted daughter Anna Jarvis wanted to honor all mothers following the death of her mother in 1905.
Mother’s Day honors motherhood in different forms throughout the world, with this year’s celebration on Sunday, May 8.
The library is offering its tea the Saturday after to avoid interfering with Mother’s Day plans, says Chapman.
Library staff will read “Sybil Ludington’s Midnight Ride” by Marsha Amstel, review basic tea etiquette, and provide an area ideal for enjoying tea, finger foods and taking pictures. The tea will be offered in the library auditorium.
A signup sheet is located in the Children’s Room. Max capacity is 40 patrons.
