The Warren County Ministerial Association held a book bag giveaway at West Elementary on Saturday with 150 backpacks distributed.

“We were hoping to take the pressure off parents and teachers by providing backpacks and school supplies for students who could use a little help,” said Michael Harris, president of the Warren County Ministerial Association.

Harris said that there are some book bags leftover and he’d love to get them to people who could use them.

“We expected a bigger turnout for this event so we do have some more book bags. Anyone who’s interested in receiving one of these backpacks can notify me by email at mandmharris@charter.net and I’ll make arrangements to meet up with them and get one to them,” said Harris.

Each backpack was suitable for boys or girls. Different grade levels require different supplies so the book bags were categorized accordingly.

“The school gives a list of materials the students will require and that’s what we provided,” Harris said. “The list changes with different grade levels so some bags are specific for elementary school, some for middle school, and some for high school.”

Recipients of the book bags had preregistered with the ministerial association and specified the number of bags and grade levels needed in their household.

“I pray in some small way we have offered help, hope, and encouragement to those in our community,” Harris stated.

The money to purchase the bags was raised through donations to the Warren County Ministerial Association.

“Several churches in Warren County are part of our ministerial association and we try to have joint services every other month. We pick different locations for the services,” said Harris. “We schedule a speaker and have a fellowship service where we take donations to fund whatever project we’re working on at the time.”

“I would like to say a big thank you to all the different churches, volunteers, and those who made donations to this event,” said Harris. “Without you, none of this would be possible. We can always do more together than we can apart.”

Harris encourages anyone who would like to make a donation to future book back giveaways to contact him by email at mandmharris@charter.net.
