A medical emergency is the suspected cause of a crash at Ascension Saint Thomas River Park Hospital Friday afternoon.

According to a report from McMinnville Police Officer Mark Mara, a 2014 silver Honda CR-V, driven by Gary C. Womack, was traveling westbound at approximately 4:30 p.m. on the Hwy. 70S bypass when Womack reportedly suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle.

Two witnesses who were following the Honda CR-V came forward with identical statements saying the vehicle abruptly swerved in two different directions before leaving the roadway at Cadillac Lane onto the embankment at River Park Hospital and into the hospital parking lot, where it struck two parked and unoccupied vehicles, a Ford Escape and a Dodge Caravan.

Womack’s vehicle held two passengers, Deborah Womack, the driver’s wife, and a 2-year-old. The child was found to be in a high-back booster seat, not the correct child passenger safety seat required by law. All three occupants of the Honda suffered injuries and were transported by EMS to the hospital’s emergency room.

All three vehicles suffered heavy damage, and arrangements were made by the owners to have them moved.
