A brief but dramatic standoff ended peacefully Wednesday morning with the arrest of a local man for two counts of domestic assault.

Christopher Shawn McCormick, 37, was booked into the Warren County Jail on a total bond of $10,000 Wednesday, and faces allegations he assaulted a pair of victims. He was released after making bond early Thursday morning with several stipulations, including a GPS ankle monitor.

According to the police report, at just after 11 a.m. Wednesday Warren County Sheriff’s Deputy Timothy Horn was dispatched to a residence on Beersheba Hwy. in reference to a physical domestic dispute.

Dispatchers advised the deputies responding the complainant did not know the location of the suspect, but warned them he could possibly be armed with a shotgun. The possibility of an armed suspect whose whereabouts were unknown prompted a call for more police presence, including SWAT officers from the McMinnville Police Department.

After arriving at the residence, Horn spoke to the victim who said she had come to the house to retrieve personal property and another male let her inside, where she saw McCormick in the living room. The victim said she notified McCormick of her intentions and gathered her belongings, but upon returning to the living room McCormick allegedly grabbed both her arms and a shoving match ensued. McCormick then allegedly pushed the male victim to the ground and began punching him.

The female reported she jumped on McCormick’s back to stop the fight, and was pushed off again by McCormick, who responded by allegedly grabbing and breaking her glasses. This allegedly allowed the male victim to kick himself free of the confrontation, and both victims were able to leave the house and call authorities. The police report notes both victims had visible marks on their bodies consistent with the fight they described.

Police officers surrounded the property for just under an hour while negotiating with McCormick, who eventually surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody.

McCormick is scheduled for arraignment Feb. 11. While awaiting his court date, he is to have no contact with either victim of any kind, and is directed to stay away from their homes or anywhere they’re likely to be. He also may not possess a firearm or other weapon, may not possess or consume alcohol or any other controlled substance, and must wear a global monitoring system, the costs of which will be paid at his own expense.
