A McMinnville resident was hit with a variety of charges after an incident at Walmart where he allegedly fled the scene.

Bret Wayne Marney II, 34, was arrested on Oct. 2. Deputy Chase Hillis conducted a traffic stop on Shellsford Road and Bost Road. Hillis pulled Marney over for a light law violation.

According to Hillis, “I ran the driver’s license of the driver, Bret W. Marney II, and dispatch confirmed he had a warrant out of Warren County. The warrant is for probation violation for burglary.”

A warrant was out for his arrest after a previously reported incident at Walmart in McMinnville on Aug. 12. Walmart security V. Baker was reportedly contacted by the service desk about a man that had been seen trying to complete fraudulent returns.

According to Baker, “A. Cates watched Mr. Marney on video come in to the store without a product, go to the celebration aisle behind GM self-checkout and pick up a tank that he took to customer service with a receipt that someone had previously purchased.”

He was allegedly given a refund of $33.98 and exited the grocery exit of Walmart. Baker and Cates reportedly attempted to stop Marney, but he allegedly refused and ran by the online grocery pickup. From there he allegedly fled the premises down Fernwood Street.

Marney was charged with theft and burglary for the incident in August, but he has a history with Walmart as he was also charged with criminal trespass for a previously reported incident that left him banned from the McMinnville store.

In Jan. 2017, he and Shane R. Smith reportedly stole from the McMinnville Walmart on two separate occasions. On the first occasion, the two were said to have gone to Walmart and placed a sand polisher from hardware in a buggy and then took a receipt for the sand polisher to the service desk and received a cash refund.

According to the report, on this occasion, the two stole a tool set totaling $102.22. Six days later, the pair returned to Walmart and shopped for groceries. They left the grocery exit with $143.32 worth of food and clothing without paying. As security tried to stop them, they fled the scene.

Marney has served time for these incidents, but his ban from Walmart remained.

Marney’s list of charges will be heard by a judge on Tuesday. He was charged with fugitive from justice, theft, burglary, criminal trespass, probation violation and two compulsory school attendance penalties.
