Comforting shade trees at the Blue Building will serve as a giant welcome mat as the Standard moves its annual Marketville & Car Show from the fairgrounds to downtown McMinnville.
The sixth annual event is next Saturday, July 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Blue Building.
Marketville will feature its traditional collection of crafts, food, and yard sale items that have made it such a popular event. This year Peg Broadcasting is on board as an event sponsor and food vendors will set up in the radio station parking lot.
“We’ve always had quality vendors in the past and we’ve enjoyed a good turnout through the years when Mother Nature has not interfered,” said Standard publisher Patricia Zechman. “We look for this to be another great year.”
Registration for the car show begins at 8 a.m., with judging to begin at 9 a.m. and awards presented around noon.
New this year is a 5K run, which will leave the Blue Building at 7:30 a.m. Cost of the race is $15 with a portion of proceeds to benefit Kids of the Community.
Three contests will be offered at no cost to participants. The first five people who register will be eligible for a chocolate milk chugging contest at 10 a.m., and a separate wing eating contest at 10:30 a.m. The winner of the hot wing contest will get a $25 gift card to Mudbums, and the winner of the milk chugging contest will get a $25 gift card to Walmart.
There is no cap on the number of entries in the best tattoo contest at 11 a.m. The winner will get a gift certificate to The Purple Lion, a tattoo parlor.
Some vendor space is still available for those looking to sell food or merchandise. Call the Standard at 473-2191 to reserve a spot.
