Man run over by own truck

A local man was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center on Thursday after being run over by his own truck.

David Beard, 31, is recovering after surgery following the accident.

“I’m truly grateful to all the people who were at the scene who helped take care of David,” said his father, Terry Beard. “Someone put a tourniquet around his arm and if it wasn’t for that there’s a good chance he could have bled out.”

Terry said some details are still sketchy. What is known is David was towing a trailer when he pulled into Southern Central on Manchester Highway. He reportedly put the truck in park and got out to investigate a noise being made by the trailer.

It was while David was outside the vehicle that it somehow popped out of park and began rolling. Terry said he’s not sure if the wheels rolled over his son or if he suffered his injuries from the truck passing over him while he was on the ground.

“The trauma nurse said he’s blessed with no head, neck or facial trauma,” said Terry. “He had surgery Thursday afternoon.”
