A man who reportedly hit a co-worker in the head with a concrete block while they were preparing to move a mobile office trailer has been indicted for murder.
Jared Dale Shanks, 34, of Maryville was indicted Friday by the Warren County grand jury during its regular monthly session.
Shanks is charged with killing Billy Dale Pogue Jr., 51, during a fight in a parking lot off Garfield Street at the business which was formerly Metal Products Company. The two men had been fighting when Shanks reportedly picked up the block and hit Pogue.
District Attorney General Lisa Zavogiannis said the indicted charge is for second-degree murder because there is not believed to be premeditation. She said Shanks has been incarcerated at Warren County Jail since his arrest.
The altercation took place earlier this year in April on a Sunday morning. According to McMinnville Police Det. Austin Wortman, the two men traveled to Warren County from East Tennessee to remove a mobile office trailer from the MPC property.
“They were there to remove a small trailer,” said Wortman. “They were in the process of doing that when a verbal altercation between the men turned physical. Pouge was deceased when officers arrived. Shanks was on scene and taken into custody without incident.”
