A man who hit his girlfriend with a baseball bat and then told officers he didn’t remember doing it will serve a half year behind bars.The man, John Ashmore III, 36, of Morrison, entered a guilty plea to the charge of domestic assault along with guilty pleas to additional charges of initiating the process to manufacture meth and theft. He will also be required to undergo batterer intervention class, perform 40 hours public service work, and pay $2,100.His jail time comes after deputy Derek Bowles was dispatched to the area near Morrison Church of Christ where Ashmore’s girlfriend had called for help. When he arrived, he found Ashmore walking behind his girlfriend and began questioning the pair.“She said she was moving out and an argument started over a second female moving in,” Bowles said of the woman’s story.
