Providing hot water at the jail isn’t cheap. The county Building and Grounds Committee, in a joint meeting with the county Corrections Partnership Committee, reviewed bids for replacing one of the jail’s 100-gallon gas water heaters.According to County Executive Herschel Wells, the lowest of three bids was from Warren Mechanical for $8,818, which does include removal of the old and installation of the new. The remaining bids were over $9,000. Some committee members expressed sticker shock.“Wow, for a 100-gallon water heater,” said Commissioner Carl D. Bouldin.
