Usher in holiday merriment with Junior Auxiliary’s Christmas in the Park on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The event, offered in historic downtown McMinnville, is geared toward children but can be enjoyed by all.

Junior Auxiliary’s Christmas in the Park became a tradition in Warren County back in 1986 and has ushered in the holidays since that time.

This year’s event will take place Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Grab your coat, hat and favorite facemask and join Junior Auxiliary of McMinnville on Historic Main Street to welcome Santa Claus to town,” said Junior Auxiliary member Catherine Bryant.

The event allows visitors to stroll the sidewalks enjoying the sights and sounds of Christmas. Along the way, from Magness Library to Pioneer Pediatrics, businesses will be providing treats and activities.

The free event, which is geared toward children, will look a little differently this year due to the precautions taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing and facemasks are encouraged and hand sanitizer will be available. All activities will be outdoors and spread out to discourage large gatherings, and all treats will be prepackaged.

For residents who cannot, and should not, attend due to illness, members will be live streaming the festivities via the Junior Auxiliary of McMinnville Facebook page. Individuals showing signs of illness are urged to watch the live stream.

JA of McMinnville has also included a luminary ceremony, in honor of or in memory of loved ones throughout the community. Luminaries are $10. Canned food is collected to help weigh the luminaries down and make a solid base for the candles.

After the event, canned goods will be donated to Warren County Emergency Food Bank.
