Folks who like to fiddle around are in luck this weekend.
The 48th annual Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree takes the stage this Friday and Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. each day.
There will be fiddlers galore, along with banjo players, singers and more.
It will be a weekend of free family fun with no charge for admission. The stage promises to burst with entertainment while craft vendors showcase their handmade charm. Food vendors will saturate the streets.
This cherished DeKalb County tradition will feature a wide range of performances. It will include competitions in folk singing, clogging, dobro guitar, dulcimer, autoharp, harmonica, gospel singing, banjo, square dancing, and of course fiddle.
The event will be capped Saturday night by the famous Junior and Senior Fiddle Off to determine the grand championship.
Since its inaugural year in 1972, the Smithville Fiddlers Jamboree has grown from a small-town gathering into a major event that organizers say will attract spectators from around the world. The jamboree is a throwback to days gone by when bluegrass tunes bounced off the hills of Appalachia.
Over 35 music and dance categories are scheduled each day. Pottery, jewelry, woodwork and regional-based art are a focus of the crafts.
