MCMINNVILLE — Isha Institute of Inner-sciences will host a series of free yoga events for the residents of Warren County on June 21st to celebrate this International Day of Yoga. Whether you’re new to yoga or a longtime practitioner, the Institute invites you to take part and share in the experience.

“International Yoga Day represents a global recognition of yoga’s profound impact on physical and mental wellbeing,” Alison Murry, Outreach Coordinator for the Isha Foundation said. “We’re excited to invite neighbors and guests to the community and welcome everyone to experience the transformative benefits of yoga practice. Our events are designed for all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners.”

The day’s activities will take place at the Isha Institute of Inner Sciences, a breathtaking mountain retreat on the Cumberland Plateau, with offerings like yoga workshops, guided meditations, and nature hikes.

The June 21st celebration falls on the summer solstice, which holds special significance in the yogic tradition. The date was established as International Yoga Day by the United Nations in 2014, with the resolution co-sponsored by 175 member nations. The declaration recognized yoga’s universal appeal and its role in promoting health, harmony, and peace worldwide.

“International Yoga Day brings significant attention to our region”, Alison said. “The influx of visitors not only supports our local economy but also highlights the natural beauty and welcoming spirit of our community. We’re honored to make these wellness programs accessible to everyone.”

Visitors can also enjoy guided hikes to scenic bluffs and waterfalls, vegetarian cooking demonstrations, live music, and healthy food options throughout the day.

All International Yoga Day activities at the Isha Institute are free and open to the public.

Isha Institute founder Sadhguru has said about International Yoga Day: “Make use of this International Day of Yoga to explore different dimensions of Yoga. Yoga is not just about twisting and turning. Yoga means to exist in union with the rest of creation.”

As a global nonprofit built on volunteer support, Isha Foundation is committed to making holistic well-being accessible to everyone. Founded by Sadhguru four decades ago, the Foundation teaches classical yoga and meditation and promotes environmental conservation. These include projects focused on river revitalization, soil restoration, and expanding green cover. Honored with three Presidential awards—among them India’s prestigious Padma Vibhushan—Sadhguru’s work has earned widespread recognition and respect globally.

The Isha Institute of Inner Sciences has been operating in McMinnville since 2005. The Isha community is in Warren, Sequatchie and Van Buren counties and has grown in the past 20 years from almost 50 residents to more than 350. Isha is open seven days per week, 365 days per year, from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., with walk-ins welcome. Isha invites all to explore its offerings.
