Impaired drivers a growing threat

The patient in the back of this ambulance died in July when it was struck by a motorist who has been indicted for vehicular homicide by intoxication. Impaired drivers are responsible for the deaths of more than 16,000 people in the U.S. each year, according to the Highway Patrol.
Among the sobering statistics for 2018, there were 226 drivers convicted of DUI in the 31st Judicial District that includes Warren and Van Buren counties.
