Officers are investigating another hit-and-run accident after a driver triggered a crash, then left his damaged SUV behind and ran from the scene.
The incident took place at the intersection of Sunset Drive and Highway 70S Bypass at 6 p.m. Thursday and involved two vehicles.
According to the police report, Jakob Shockley, 17, was traveling inbound on the bypass in a maroon GMC Canyon when he was struck on the driver’s side by a maroon Ford Explorer coming from the direction of Oriole Drive.
“When his traffic light turned green and he proceeded forward, Mr. Shockley stated he noticed the vehicle beside him hit their brakes then noticed the maroon Ford Explorer to his left side before getting struck in the driver’s side of his vehicle,” said officer Trevor Medley in his report.
The impact caused Shockley’s vehicle to flip onto its side. After climbing from the wreckage through the busted windshield, the McMinnville teen was treated for minor injuries to his face, right arm and right side of his body.
Witnesses at the scene reported the SUV’s driver ran in the direction of Sunset Drive and was chased by at least one individual. Multiple patrol units saturated the area and were unable to locate anyone matching the description of the fleeing suspect.
Anyone with information is urged to call McMinnville Police Department at 473-3808. It marked the third hit-and-run accident in the city in a nine-day span.
