Motorists on Highway 288 may have to wait until 2020 for bridge completion over the Collins River, according to the state.
Hennessee Bridge replacement completion has been postponed.
“It does not appear, at this time, that the project will be completed prior to the end of the year,” said Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson Jennifer Flynn.
Estimated project completion date was the end of November. At this time the new date of completion is unknown.
Flynn added, “I have asked the project supervisor when the contract completion date will be adjusted, but I haven’t heard back yet,” said Flynn. “The bridge is still down to one lane controlled by a signal. The contractor has poured the remaining deck concrete and is now preparing to pour the concrete railing and approach pavement. Once that is completed, he will be ready to finish the subgrade, base, and asphalt approaches to complete the project.”
The one 10.5-foot lane allows the contractor to construct the new bridge. While down to one lane, traffic is maintained and controlled by a temporary signal. Motorists should expect periodic delays and use caution in the work zone.
The contractor over the project is Palmertree Construction Company.
