Dispose of your hazardous household chemicals for free this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds.

Now is your chance to dispose of household chemicals for free at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event this weekend. 

It will be held this Saturday, Aug. 28 at the Warren County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The collection site will be located across the street from the county convenience center on fairgrounds property.

Household hazardous waste is anything corrosive, flammable, toxic, or reactive used in one’s home, vehicle, or yard that is unwanted or unusable. Since the program’s inception in 1993, more than 360,000 Tennessee households have properly disposed of more than 23 million pounds of material.  

Household cleaners you can bring are: drain openers, oven cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, wood or metal cleaners and polishes, and disinfectants. 

Home maintenance chemicals to bring include: paint thinner, wood preservatives, paint strippers and removers, and adhesives. The lawn and garden chemicals to dispose of are herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers. 

Automotive products to dispose of are: fuel additives, cleaners, coolants, starter fluids, grease and rust solvents, air conditioning refrigerants, body putty, and carburetor/ fuel injectors. 

Other miscellaneous items to bring are: fingernail polish remover, medicines, lead, compressed gas, Mercury thermostats and thermometers, pool chemicals, photo processing chemicals, aerosols, reactive materials, and fluorescent light bulbs. 

Needles will be accepted as long as they are in a puncture-proof container. No medical or infectious waste besides the needles and sharps will be accepted. 

Ammunition, explosives, radioactive waste including smoke detectors, or any empty containers will not be accepted. 

Waste from non-household sources like schools, churches, businesses, etc., will be accepted by appointment only. The number to call to schedule an appointment and get a price quote is 615-643-3170.

Batteries, paint, electronics, and oil are accepted daily at the county convenience center at 477 Fairgrounds Rd.
