Stacey Harvey’s protest of the 2020 presidential election has gained attention.
Harvey has been flying the U.S. flag upside down at his business, Superior Walls. The plant is located in the Rock Island area on heavily traveled Sparta Highway.
Flying an American flag upside down is meant as a symbol of distress.
“I got a call from the Sheriff’s Department asking me if everything is alright,” said Harvey. “I assure you the distress is not inside the gates of this plant. It’s the rest of the country that’s under distress.”
Harvey says he has no immediate plans to change the way he’s flying the flag, despite negative feedback.
“It’s my First Amendment right and I’m exercising it, and I will continue to do such,” said Harvey. “See that’s why I’m an anomaly here. I don’t make money FROM here in Warren County. I bring money into this area. I don’t have to cater to anyone here and I won’t. I never have and I never will. I am me. I have my beliefs, my values and my relationship with God. I’m good. I do not need anyone’s approval at all, and I don’t seek it either.”
Considering how Warren County voted in this presidential election, Harvey said he doesn’t believe he will be offending too many.
He said, “Have you looked at how this area votes? Last presidential election 76% Trump. The 24% that don’t agree with me can pound sand.”
As for how long he will continue to fly the flag upside down, he said, “I’ll keep doing it until I feel it’s time to turn it the other way.”
